The Pennybacker Company is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing outsourced accounting and CFO practice in Northwest Austin.  This onsite position is available on either a full-time or part-time basis and is designed for early-career accounting professionals who want to accelerate their careers by working across multiple industries and business models, not just within a single company.  Rather than specializing in tax preparation or performing repetitive accounting tasks, you'll work alongside experienced accountants who serve as trusted financial partners to business owners. You'll gain broad exposure to accounting, financial reporting, business operations, and advisory services while helping clients make better financial decisions.

Because you'll support a diverse portfolio of growing businesses, you'll develop technical accounting skills much faster than in many traditional corporate accounting roles.

We believe exceptional accounting doesn't require sacrificing your personal life. Our typical work week is intentionally designed to meet client deadlines while providing employees with a consistent, predictable schedule.

Full-Time Hours

• Monday: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

• Tuesday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

• Friday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

 

Part-time schedules are available within these hours.

As a Staff Accountant, you will develop the ability to:

• Prepare accurate reconciliations, schedules, and supporting workpapers.

• Analyze accounting transactions and identify inconsistencies or unusual financial relationships.

• Manage multiple client engagements while maintaining exceptional accuracy and organization.

• Communicate financial information clearly and professionally with colleagues, clients, and business owners.

• Leverage modern accounting technology—including Excel, QuickBooks, and AI tools—to improve efficiency while applying sound professional judgment.

 

High-performing team members who demonstrate technical growth, initiative, and professionalism may advance into an Accountant role with expanded responsibilities in financial reporting, client advisory, business consulting, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Process, review, and analyze accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness.

• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

• Prepare financial reports and assist in the preparation of financial statements.

• Maintain accurate records within the general ledger and related subledgers.

• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, banking, and cash management processes.

• Assist with budgeting, cash flow reporting, KPI development, and other client-specific financial projects as appropriate.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, automation, and internal controls.

• Coordinate priorities across multiple client engagements while consistently meeting deadlines.

• Collaborate with senior accountants and, as experience grows, participate directly in client meetings and communications.

Qualifications

 

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution.

• Two or more years of professional accounting experience.

• Experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, lookups, and financial reporting.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, inconsistencies, and relationships within financial data.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Authorization to work permanently in the United States.

 

Preferred

• Experience supporting month-end close and financial statement preparation.

• Experience working with multiple companies or clients.

• Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency, research accounting questions, automate routine tasks, and enhance workflow while exercising sound professional judgment.

Compensation & Benefits

 

Salary: $50,000–$60,000 annually

Compensation is based on experience, education, technical skills, and overall qualifications.

Location

 

This position is onsite in Northwest Austin, Texas.  Relocation assistance is not provided. Candidates should reside in the Austin area or be willing to relocate at their own expense.
